Matthieu Wyart is a Research Professor in the William H. Miller III Department of Physics & Astronomy at Johns Hopkins University (JHU), effective November 2024. He holds affiliations with the Krieger School of Arts & Sciences and previously served as an Assistant Professor (2010–2014) and Associate Professor (2014–2023) at New York University before being appointed a full Professor in the School of Basic Sciences at EPFL in 2023. His research focuses on interdisciplinary areas including the architecture of allosteric materials, granular/suspension flows, glass/yielding transitions, and modern applications of deep learning in data structure and generative models.
- Education: PhD in Theoretical Physics and Finance from SPEC, CEA Saclay, Paris (2006), preceded by studies at École Polytechnique (Physics degree, 2001) and École Normale Supérieure (Diploma of Advanced Studies in Theoretical Physics with highest Honors, 2002).
Wyart’s academic journey includes positions at Harvard, Janelia Farm, and Princeton prior to his tenure at NYU. His work bridges fundamental physics with complex systems analysis, leveraging computational methods and statistical mechanics to explore material behavior and machine learning paradigms. While specific grants or lab affiliations are not detailed in the text, his current department is based in the Bloomberg Center for Physics and Astronomy, Baltimore, MD. Advising activities are listed but no specific students are named here.
