Matthieu Pignot is a Senior Researcher at the University of Namur and the Royal Library of Belgium under the FED-tWIN program (2024-2025). He previously held prestigious fellowships, including a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship at Durham University (2020-2023) and postdoctoral positions with FNRS (2019-2023) and Marie Curie COFUND Diplomas (2017-2019).
- Education: DPhil in History (University of Oxford, 2016), MSt in Late Antique and Byzantine Studies (Oxford, 2012), Master’s in Mediterranean Antiquity and Near Eastern Religions (École Pratique des Hautes Études, 2011), and a Quechua language certificate (INALCO, 2011).
His research focuses on the religious and cultural history of the Late Antique and Early Medieval West, particularly the manuscript transmission of Augustinian texts and the study of anonymous/pseudepigraphical works. He explores themes like Christian identity, initiation rituals (baptism, penance), and medieval compilation practices.
Recent publications analyze disorder in medieval sermon collections, Rufinus’s Latin translations, and the theological debates surrounding original sin. His work intersects with disciplines such as manuscript studies, patristics, and early Christian literature.
