Prof. Dr. Matthias Wendland, LL.M. (Harvard), holds the Chair in Civil and Information Law at the Department of Economics and Legal Sciences, University of Oldenburg. He leads interdisciplinary research projects commissioned by the European Commission and regional governments, focusing on the intersection of information law and civil law. His work spans international legal frameworks and technological innovation in judicial processes.
Research interests include Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Justice, Digitalization of Administration and Judiciary, European Civil Procedure Law, and Legal Technology. His projects integrate NLP-based preprocessing, unsupervised training, and reinforcement learning of curated datasets, alongside foundational studies in General Terms and Conditions (AGB) and Data Protection Law.
Recent publications in legal commentaries address European civil procedure, digital consumer contracts, and international legal cooperation. His OpenWebsearch initiatives, including projects LISA and NordLink, focus on transparent European web indexing and ethical AI infrastructure.
Collaborations include partnerships with the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), CERN, and Leibniz Computing Center (LRZ), reflecting his interdisciplinary and global approach.
