Matthias Spillmann

Matthias Spillmann is a Professor at the Lucerne School of Music, Hochschule Luzern, specializing in jazz trumpet and ensemble education. His teaching focuses on Jazz Trumpet, Jazz Ensemble Course, and Specialised Teaching Methods in Trumpet.

His research encompasses jazz composition and performance, notably through his band MATS-UP which has released six albums. He performs avant-garde ambient music with MAT-DOWN and collaborates with ensembles including Grünes Blatt, Lauer Large, and Lucerne Jazz Orchestra. His international performances span three continents, featuring collaborations with artists like Joe Lovano and Randy Brecker.

Significant recognitions include the Werkjahr 2006 award from Zürich and the Moods Blues & Jazz Award for his artistic contributions.
