Matthias Schreck is a Lecturer in Web and Design at Saar Academy of Fine Arts since 2011. He is also the founder of signum3 – office for communication design, a professional design studio established in 2003 that operates from the historic Old Village Church in Erbshausen near Würzburg.
His academic background includes a Diploma in Communication Design from Saar Academy of Fine Arts (1996-2001), where he studied under Professors Ivica Maksimovic, Burkhard Detzler, and Bodo Baumgarten. Prior to his academic studies, he completed vocational training as a print template producer (1992-1995), graduating as the top student in his chamber at IHK Würzburg.
Matthias Schreck's professional interests focus on Communication Design across multiple platforms including Corporate Design (brand development), Corporate Print (magazines and brochures), Corporate Screen (websites and interfaces), and Corporate Code (programming and digital business processes). His work emphasizes practical application of design principles in real-world contexts.
His design philosophy centers on 'constant questioning' and 'positive doubt,' with a focus on creating simple, effective solutions rather than overly complex ones. As stated in his professional materials: 'The creative process is a constant questioning and positive doubt. Let us engage in this process, not to make something better, but einfach und gut - simply good.'
As a practitioner-educator, Schreck bridges academic theory with professional practice, bringing over 20 years of industry experience to inform his teaching approach at Saar Academy of Fine Arts.
