Dr. Qian's research explores how organizations harness technological innovations—particularly AI—to enhance performance and adaptability. His work examines how internal structures, roles, and strategies shape successful AI adoption, revealing that organizational design, top management composition, and early technological commitments significantly influence firms' ability to scale AI solutions. His research spans entrepreneurship, venture capital, and the future of work, with a particular focus on how AI transforms organizational structures and job roles.
His groundbreaking work on AI translators—multidisciplinary experts who bridge business and technology expertise—demonstrates how these roles reduce coordination costs in organizations adopting AI. His research shows that venture-capital-funded startups post over four times as many AI translator job postings as incumbent firms, and that the strategic use of AI translators positively impacts startup performance, including successful initial public offerings.
