Matthias Müller

Prof. Matthias Müller is a Professor of Experimental Film at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne (KHM). Born in 1961, he studied at Bielefeld University and Braunschweig University of Art. He has held visiting professorships at Goethe University Frankfurt and FH Dortmund. His work spans film and video since 1979, often collaborating with Christoph Girardet. Müller's films have been featured at prestigious festivals (Cannes, Venice, Berlin) and institutions like MOMA and Tate Modern. He is a jury member for film commissions and festivals, and his curatorial work includes roles with the Goethe-Institut and Max Ophüls Prize. Awards include the Cannes Short Film Prize and Marl Video Art Prize. His research focuses on portraiture, identity, and media representation, reflected in seminars like 'De/Constructing the Other' exploring cinematic identity construction and political activism in art.
