Matthias Leichtfried is a Research Fellow at the Institute of German Studies within the Faculty of Philology and Cultural Studies at the University of Vienna, specializing in German didactics with a particular focus on artificial intelligence applications in education. His work bridges literary theory, digital pedagogy, and sociological perspectives on classroom dynamics, examining how generative AI transforms German language instruction and literary education.
His research interests include German lessons in digital culture, generative artificial intelligence applications in German teaching, fake news and disinformation as epistemological challenges, literary classroom discussions, performativity-theoretical German didactics, aesthetics and literary aesthetic experience, and sociological perspectives on German teaching with emphasis on class, milieu, stratum, and educational equity.
Leichtfried's recent publications and speaking engagements reveal a strong focus on AI's integration into educational settings, with numerous workshops and presentations on implementing AI technologies while maintaining critical pedagogical approaches.
