Matthew Wright serves as Professor of Greek in the Department of Classics, Ancient History, Religion and Theology at the University of Exeter, where he has taught Greek and Latin language and literature since 1999. He was instrumental in developing Exeter's Liberal Arts degree programme and previously taught at Vassar College, NY.
His research focuses on:
- Greek and Roman Theatre
- Literary Fragments and Lost Works
- Ancient Literary Criticism and Scholarship
- Tragedy and Comedy (specializing in New Comedy)
Current work centers on Menander, Plautus, and Terence, with extensive publications spanning Euripides, fragmentary texts, and ancient dramatic traditions.
His scientific recognition includes:

Professional engagement encompasses editorial roles for the Journal of Hellenic Studies (*JHS*) and *Omnibus*, alongside committee service for the Council for UK Classics Departments (CUCD) and the Hellenic Society.
