Matthew Warren Lee is an Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, known for his oil paintings and draftsmanship rooted in scientific experiences. From 2008–2010, he worked with the United States Antarctic Program, including a 13-month stay at the Geographic South Pole, where he learned field medicine and taught watercolor classes. His art integrates elements from this period, featuring large scientific devices like telescopes and neutrino detectors, alongside paleontological influences from his ongoing collaboration with the Carthage Institute of Paleontology excavating dinosaur bones in Montana’s Hell Creek Formation.
Lee’s work explores the intersection of science and art, with landscapes and still lifes reflecting his engagement with scientific environments. His paintings and writings have been published in New American Paintings and Manifest, and his art has been exhibited across the U.S., including in Milwaukee, Cincinnati, and New York.
