Matthew Tedesco

Matthew Tedesco is a Professor of Philosophy at Beloit College, where he teaches courses in ethical theory, biomedical ethics, environmental ethics, logic, and theories of law and justice. He holds a PhD (2004), MA (2001) from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and a BA (1997) from Hofstra University. His research focuses on consequentialism in ethical theory and moral status/personhood issues, including questions of when and how such status is acquired or ends.

As an affiliated faculty member in Environmental Studies, Health & Society, and Law & Justice programs, Tedesco connects philosophical concepts to interdisciplinary real-world challenges. He emphasizes critical thinking about societal roles and personal ethics, aiming to help students navigate complex moral questions. His teaching philosophy centers on empowering students to contribute positively to the world through clear, careful reasoning.
