Matt Taylor is a Research Fellow and PhD candidate at the Tax and Transfer Policy Institute (TTPI) within the Crawford School of Public Policy at the Australian National University (ANU), concurrently serving as Director of the Intergenerational program at the Centre for Independent Studies. With over a decade of expertise in economic modelling and data analysis, he previously held research roles at ANU's Centre for Social Research and Methods and collaborated with government agencies including the Commonwealth Department of Employment and Australian Institute of Family Studies.
He holds a Bachelor of Economics in Economics & Econometrics from Monash University and is completing his PhD at ANU. His research spans gambling behavior, parental leave policies, household income dynamics, and wellbeing, utilizing longitudinal and survey methodologies focused on Australian populations to evaluate social policy impacts.
Taylor's publication trends reveal increasing focus on critical social determinants, particularly the relationship between natural disasters and adolescent mental health alongside problem gambling risk trajectories. His work consistently integrates economic modelling with large-scale survey data to address policy gaps in family payments and gambling regulation.
He has led three significant projects including the ACT Gambling Survey 2019 (128-page commissioned report), Early Childhood Place Based Programs analysis (2021-2022), and ABSTUDY research (2017), demonstrating strong collaboration with institutions like the Centre for Social Research and Methods through co-investigator roles with researchers including Mark Paterson and Matthew Gray.
