He specializes in interventional endoscopy with expertise in gastrointestinal cancer, precancerous states, pancreatic and biliary disease, inflammatory bowel disease, and gastrointestinal bleeding.
Dr. Moyer's educational background includes:
- Medical School, Penn State College of Medicine (2002)
- Fellowship in Gastroenterology, Milton S. Hershey Medical Center (2008)
- Residency in Internal Medicine, Milton S. Hershey Medical Center (2005)
His research primarily focuses on interventional endoscopy and cancerous/pre-cancerous conditions in gastroenterology. Dr. Moyer's work encompasses EUS-guided ablation of premalignant pancreatic cysts, Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR), Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD), and Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery (NOTES). He also develops innovative endoscopic techniques for patients with inflammatory bowel disease, leading intellectual property projects including the Chimera Project with Penn State University Bioengineering and the Quic-fuse Project with IDE Inc. of Sydney Australia.
His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on improving endoscopic techniques for polyp resection, management of inflammatory bowel disease-associated dysplastic lesions, and bleeding control. His work bridges clinical practice with technological innovation, particularly in the areas of pancreatic cyst ablation and defect closure systems.
Dr. Moyer has received numerous scientific awards including:
- American College of Gastroenterology Governors Award for Excellence in Clinical Research (2017)
- Clinical Science Master Career Mentor Award, Penn State Health and Penn State College of Medicine (2023)
- First Place Award Winner, ACG Video Forum (2014)
- Inductee, Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society (2008)
- Investigator to Watch Award from the Center for Medical Innovation (2018)
- Penn State Health CAHPS Inpatient Dean's List for Extraordinary Patient Satisfaction (2017, 2018)
Dr. Moyer serves as Principal Investigator for the CHARM 2 clinical trial funded by the National Cancer Institute, investigating chemotherapy for ablation and resolution of mucinous pancreatic cysts. His research has been supported by significant grant funding, demonstrating his leadership in advancing endoscopic treatments for gastrointestinal conditions. He has supervised numerous fellows and residents throughout his career, contributing to gastroenterology education.
Dr. Moyer leads several innovative projects including the Chimera Project, a collaboration with Penn State University Bioengineering to develop an EUS-guided device using radiofrequency ablation and targeted external beam radiation, and the Quic-fuse Project with IDE Inc. of Sydney Australia to develop a chemoinfusion gun for EUS-guided chemoablation of pancreatic cysts.
