Matthew Petillo is an Associate Professor of the Practice in the Department of Theology at Boston College, affiliated with the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on theology of grace, Lonergan’s method, religious experience, and the intersection of theology with post-modern philosophy. He has published extensively on topics such as divine love, Lonerganian perspectives on grace, and challenges to religious universalism in contemporary thought.
His work engages deeply with Bernard Lonergan’s theological framework, exploring themes like grace, glory, and the gaze of love. Recent publications include contributions to Bernard Lonergan’s Method in Theology (2023) and Grace and Friendship: Festschrift for Frederick Lawrence (2016). Earlier research addressed the theological problem of grace and post-modern critiques of universalist religious philosophies.
