Matthew O. Anderson

Matthew O. Anderson is an Assistant Professor of German at Furman University since August 2023. His academic work bridges Germanic Studies, Translation Studies, and 19th-century cultural history. He received his Ph.D. (2019) and M.A. (2014) in Germanic Studies from the University of Texas at Austin, and a dual B.A. in German and Philosophy (2011) from Pacific Lutheran University.

Anderson specializes in 19th-century German popular literature, publishing industry analysis, and intermedial adaptation. His research also incorporates translation theory and the cultural pedagogy of children’s literature. Publications explore topics like visual interventions in youth adaptations of Cooper's works, educational travel anthologies, and technical communication in German engineering contexts.

His recent articles examine historical German youth literature, focusing on visual culture, adaptation mechanics, and cross-disciplinary linguistic applications. Themes include the Leatherstocking Tales' German reception, travel literature's role in education, and automotive engineering discourse.
