Matthew Nethercote is a Research Fellow at the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP), University of Cambridge. His research focuses on acoustic wave diffraction, wave scattering, and metamaterials, with a strong emphasis on analytical and computational methods for partial differential equations. He contributes to the Waves Group within DAMTP, exploring topics such as scattering by complex geometries and software development for wave simulations.
His work bridges theoretical physics and applied mathematics, addressing challenges in boundary value problems, asymptotic analysis, and numerical algorithms. Notably, he has developed the Tmatsolver software for simulating wave scattering in two dimensions, contributing to metamaterial applications. His research publications span journals like SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics and the Proceedings of the Royal Society A.
