Dr. Matthew Marlin is a Professor of Economics at the Palumbo-Donahue School of Business, Duquesne University, where he has served since 1987. He previously taught at Winthrop University and Old Dominion University. Dr. Marlin holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Florida State University (1981).
Research Interests: His research focuses on municipal bond markets, public sector labor markets, and forensic economics. He pioneered a European Study Abroad Program (1992–late 1990s), organizing student trips to France, Italy, Germany, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Ireland, and Turkey. Recently, he accompanied students to China and Japan. His legal economics expertise includes over 250 cases involving economic loss estimates for personal injury, wrongful death, and wrongful termination.
Professional Roles: He served as Chair of the Economics Department and is a past president of the American Academy of Economic and Financial Experts. He also edited the Journal of Legal Economics. His work bridges academic research and practical applications, including testimony in legal cases and contributions to economic policy analysis.
Publications: Dr. Marlin has authored numerous articles on tax-exempt bonds, forensic economics, and legal damages. Recent topics include the impact of ethnicity on work-life expectancy, social security benefits valuation, and municipal bond market dynamics.
