Matthew MacFarland

Matthew MacFarland is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the School of Humanities and Sciences, specializing in contemporary art, cartooning, and art education. He is the creator of the graphic narrative Dark Pants and author of The Teaching Chronicles volumes 1 and 2, which document his teaching experiences. His latest work, My Troubles with Crumb, explores his artistic relationship with R. Crumb. MacFarland holds an MFA from Otis College of Art and Design (2003) and co-directs Elephant, an artist-run space in Glassell Park.

His artwork has been featured in venues such as the Vincent Price Museum and Torrance Museum of Art, and his work has been reviewed in The Los Angeles Times and Comics Grinder. He teaches courses like HNAR-382-01: The Graphic Novel, blending artistic practice with educational innovation.
