Matthew Leisinger is an Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy at York University's Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies. He holds a PhD from Yale University and a BA from The University of Western Ontario. His research focuses on Early Modern Philosophy, particularly John Locke and Cambridge Platonism, with emphasis on free will, consciousness, and moral psychology.
Dr. Leisinger's work bridges historical analysis and contemporary philosophical problems, exploring themes like immaterial extension, reflective consciousness, and the mechanics of human liberty. He co-organizes the York University Seminar in Early Modern Philosophy (YUSEMP) and serves as leaf editor for Locke: Free Will at PhilPapers.org.
His research contributions have been recognized with the 2020 Marc Sanders Prize in the History of Early Modern Philosophy. He actively mentors graduate students as Graduate Program Director and is currently accepting new advisees.
