Matthew Kim is an Associate Professor and Director of the Data Analytics Major Program at the University of St. Thomas. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Wisconsin, alongside a Master's in Economics and a BA in Biology and Economics from Williams College. His research focuses on public policy impacts, particularly in food security, health, education, and applied microeconomics. He has been at St. Thomas since 2007 and teaches courses such as Principles of Microeconomics and Game Theory.
Dr. Kim’s research examines policy intersections like SNAP access, Medicaid expansions, and educational equity. His work highlights how public programs affect intergenerational outcomes, labor supply, and social mobility. He actively mentors undergraduate researchers, emphasizing quantitative literacy and real-world policy analysis.
His recent publications address food insecurity’s long-term effects on education and health, with a focus on marginalized populations. He also explores healthcare policy’s role in children’s well-being and labor markets. His teaching and research reflect a commitment to bridging theoretical economics with practical societal challenges.
