Dr. Matthew Kerry is a Zeitlyn Fellow and Tutor in History at Jesus College, University of Oxford. His academic background includes a PhD from the University of Sheffield (2015), with prior teaching roles at Loughborough, Durham, and Stirling universities. He holds research fellowships at institutions such as York University (Toronto), the Institute for Social Movements (Bochum), and the Universidad de Granada.
His research focuses on modern Spain’s social and cultural history, particularly the interplay between politics and everyday life. Key projects include studies on the Spanish Second Republic, anticlerical violence, and the broader history of political engagement in 20th-century Spain. Current work explores Spanish charivari (rough music) and the role of sound in mass politics, analyzing technologies of amplification and protest noise-making.
Kerry’s scholarly awards include Fellowships from the Royal Historical Society and the Higher Education Academy. His publications span monographs, edited volumes, and peer-reviewed articles, with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary historical analysis.
