Matthew Jones is a Professor of Public Health and Community Development at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol). He holds a DPhil, MPhil, and MA. His work focuses on third-sector initiatives, community-centered public health, and sustainable food systems. He collaborates with institutions like Cardiff University, University College Lillebaelt (Denmark), and the University of Bristol.
Research interests include social theory and health, community gardens, social value metrics, and evaluations of public health programs. Notable projects include ConnectED (NIHR-funded, 2021–2024), RECETAS (EU-funded, 2019–2025), and Sustainable Food Cities (2017–2024). He co-chairs the UK Healthy Universities Network and leads UWE’s Community Development theme in the Bristol Centre for Public Health and Wellbeing.
Teaching responsibilities include mixed-methods research, public health policy, and food systems on MSc programs like Sustainable Development in Practice and Sustainable Food Systems.
Key grants and projects span adult social care, nature-based social prescribing, and healthy ageing initiatives. He advises state and third-sector bodies on program evaluation and innovation.
