Matthew Frye Jacobson is Sterling Professor of American Studies and History at Yale University. He holds a PhD in American Civilization from Brown University (1992). His scholarship examines race, politics, and culture in U.S. history, with emphases on imperialism, migration, civil rights, and citizenship frameworks.
His documentary film A Long Way from Home received a Golden Telly Award. Current projects analyze political comedy through figures like Dick Gregory, and he co-hosts the webinar series Historians Imagine to explore creative methodologies in historical scholarship.
