Matthew Gentzkow is the Landau Professor of Technology and the Economy at Stanford University, where he joined the Economics Department in 2015. Previously, he was a Richard O. Ryan Professor at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business (2013-15) and has maintained ties through the Becker Friedman Institute. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Econometric Society, and a Senior Fellow at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research (SIEPR).
His research focuses on applied microeconomics, particularly the economics of media and technology industries. Notable contributions include analyzing media bias, political polarization, digital addiction, and the societal impacts of television, newspapers, and social media. He employs innovative empirical methods and large-scale data to address questions about media consumption, brand persistence, and health policy.
