Brent Neiman is the Edward Eagle Brown Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He served as Deputy Undersecretary for International Finance at the U.S. Treasury (2022-2025) and currently co-directs the International Economics and Economic Geography Initiative at the Becker Friedman Institute. Affiliated with the National Bureau of Economic Research and Center for Economic Policy Research, he contributes to journals like The American Economic Review and the Journal of International Economics.
- Education: PhD in Economics (Harvard, 2008), MSc in Mathematical Modeling (Oxford, 2000), BS in Economics and BAS (University of Pennsylvania, 1999)
His research focuses on international macroeconomics, trade, and finance, analyzing global capital flows, tax havens, and emerging market debt. Recent work examines remote work productivity, consumer choice complexity, and reciprocal tariffs, with trends spanning International Finance, Labor Economics, and Policy Analysis.
