Matthew Frakes is a Research Fellow at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), affiliated with the Henry A. Kissinger Center for Global Affairs. He holds a Ph.D. in History from the University of Virginia and has previously earned master's degrees in International History from the University of Virginia, Columbia University, and the London School of Economics, along with a Bachelor's in History from Princeton University.
Research Interests: Dr. Frakes specializes in U.S. foreign relations and national security strategy, particularly focusing on the late Cold War era and the emergence of post-Cold War global security frameworks. His work examines transnational threats like rogue states, terrorism, and weapons of mass destruction, as well as the evolution of U.S. military interventions.
Publications: He is currently writing Rogue States: The Making of America’s Global War on Terror (under contract with Cornell University Press) and Grenada 1983: American Resurgence towards the End of the Cold War (under contract with Osprey Publishing).
Awards: He has been awarded the America in the World Consortium Postdoctoral Fellowship.
