Matthew Farley is a Lecturer in Scenic Construction at Guildhall, specializing in theatre production and technical arts. He holds a degree in Scenic Construction and Stage Properties and has extensive industry experience as a freelance prop maker, scenic carpenter, and technical manager across theatres like The Almeida Theatre and The Theatre Royal Stratford, as well as corporate events and exhibitions. His career spans Germany, where he worked with touring theatre companies and designed sets and costumes.
Since 2002, he has taught in higher education, including roles as Construction Tutor and Head of Construction at E15 Acting School (2003–2013), then Master Carpenter/Senior Tutor at Mountview Academy (2013–2017). He joined Guildhall in 2017. Farley earned a Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education Practice (2014) and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
His expertise bridges practical craftsmanship and educational leadership, with a focus on scenic construction techniques, props, and theatre production logistics.
