Matthew Eberly

Matthew Eberly is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) School of Medicine. Currently serving as Chief of Inpatient Pediatrics at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC), he also holds the position of Pediatric Infectious Diseases Consultant to the United States Air Force Surgeon General. His academic career spans significant roles including Pediatric Clerkship Director (2012-2016) and Program Director of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Fellowship (2016-2021).

Dr. Eberly's research focuses on vaccine-preventable infections and neonatal fever, with particular emphasis on epidemiology of pathogens like Group B Streptococcus, rotavirus, respiratory syncytial virus, and Clostridioides difficile. His work combines clinical research with military medical applications, including telemedicine implementations for infectious disease management.

Notable scientific achievements include becoming the only military pediatrician to win all four categories of the AAP Section of Uniformed Services Scientific Awards Competition, with honors including the Howard Johnson Award (2005), Leo Geppert Award (2007), Ogden Bruton Award (2009), and Andrew Margileth Award (2010). He also received the prestigious COMSEP Teacher/Educator Award in 2016.
