Matthew Doyle is a Lecturer in Social Anthropology at University College London (UCL), specializing in state reform, decolonisation, and indigenous politics in Latin America. He serves as Programme Lead for the MSc in Social and Cultural Anthropology and has previously held roles as a Teaching Fellow at the University of Southampton.
- Education: PhD in Social Anthropology (University of Sussex, 2019), MSc in Social Research Methods (University of Sussex), MA in Social Anthropology (University of Manchester), MA in Political Philosophy (University of Sheffield)
His research examines indigenous governance, legal pluralism, and the decolonisation of universities. He founded the Social Science and Ethics Research Group at Sussex and works on projects related to the Sustainable Development Goals No Poverty, Life on Land, and Quality Education. His publications focus on Bolivia’s plurinational reforms, vivir bien as alternative development, and ethical challenges in academia.

- Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (2022–present)
Matthew has led funded projects including The Alternative University Network (UCL Global Engagement Grant) and The Politics of Indigenous Religious Ritual in Urban Bolivia (SLAS Postdoctoral Research Grant). He has taught courses such as The Anthropology of Crime and Cultures of Power.
