معرفی
Matthew Demers is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics & Statistics at the University of Guelph, within the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences. His research spans Mathematical Imaging, focusing on fractal-based methods like LIFSM for image processing (denoising, watermarking), and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, particularly addressing math preparedness through initiatives like the Warmup Test in calculus courses. He also explores Evolutionary Algorithms, Partial Differential Equations, and Traffic Flow Modelling.
Research Interests:
- Fractal Imaging: Iterated Function Systems (IFS) for image compression and enhancement.
- Teaching Innovation: Surveys and interventions to improve student readiness in foundational math courses.
- Applied Mathematics: Modelling via PDEs, traffic dynamics, and evolutionary algorithm applications.
Recent Contributions: Published analysis on the Warmup Test’s impact on student performance and confidence in Calculus I/II and Applied Differential Equations.
Advising & Collaboration: Supervised undergraduate projects on fractal visualization, numerical PDE solutions, and evolutionary algorithms. Engages in cross-departmental collaboration through CEPS to refine pedagogical strategies.
