Dr. Matthew Cribbet is an Associate Professor in Psychology at the University of Alabama. His research examines pathways linking stress, sleep, social factors, and early life adversity to cardiovascular disease risk. He completed doctoral training in clinical health psychology at the University of Utah, an APA-approved internship at University of Rochester School of Medicine, and a postdoctoral fellowship in Sleep Medicine at University of Pittsburgh.
Research interests include sleep medicine, cardiovascular pathophysiology, effects of early life adversity on physical health, emotion regulation, and interpersonal relationships as health determinants. Work integrates psychophysiological measures including heart rate variability and sleep architecture analysis.
Publications demonstrate strong focus on sleep health measurement, stress physiology, health disparities in underserved populations, and bidirectional relationships between relational factors and physical health. Recent work emphasizes cultural adaptations of interventions and longitudinal health outcomes.
