Matthew Brolly is a Professor in Remote Sensing and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) at the School of Environment and Technology, University of Brighton. He holds a PhD from the University of Edinburgh and has held roles including Adjunct Assistant Research Professor at the University of Maryland. His research focuses on ecosystem remote sensing, radar and lidar applications, and quantitative methods. He collaborates internationally with institutions like NASA JPL and the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Education: PhD in Radar Backscatter Modelling (University of Edinburgh, 2012), MSc Archaeological Geophysics (University of Bradford, 2005), BSc Geophysics (University of Edinburgh, 2004).
Research interests include environmental remote sensing, vegetation dynamics, and climate change. He leads the Centre for Earth Observation Science (CEObs) and supervises PhD students on projects like Stonehenge carvings and Nigerian mangrove monitoring. Awards include the Fellowship of Higher Education Academy (2018).
Notable projects include sUAS studies of goat populations in Spain and forest dynamics research funded by NASA. His work integrates SAR, LiDAR, and multispectral data for environmental and archaeological applications.
