Matthew Breece is an Assistant Professor in Marine Science at St. Mary's College of Maryland. His research integrates acoustic telemetry, remote sensing, and species distribution modeling to study imperiled fish species in coastal ecosystems.
Research focuses on conservation technology development, including satellite-based warning systems to reduce human-wildlife conflicts. His work with Atlantic sturgeon and sharks examines migration ecology, habitat selection, and social behaviors using autonomous underwater vehicles and acoustic tracking.
Current projects investigate temperate fish responses to offshore developments and spatiotemporal habitat patterns in spawning rivers. His research supports sustainable fisheries management through advanced monitoring technologies and predictive modeling.
