Matthew (Matt) Black is a Professor of Dramatic Writing at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), Savannah, GA since 2024. Previously, he held roles such as Lecturer at AFI Conservatory, Script Consultant for Warner Music Entertainment, and Screenwriting Instructor at institutions like Northwestern University and the Native American Media Alliance. His academic background includes an M.F.A. in Film from Columbia University and a B.F.A. in Art: Film/Photo/Video from the University of Oklahoma.
Black's research and professional work focus on screenwriting across horror, thriller, and dramatic genres. He has contributed to major projects including the horror film Porno (Shudder/Fangoria, 2020) and the TV drama Station Blackout (YouTube Premium). His work often explores themes of psychological tension, genre hybridization, and character-driven narratives.
Recipient of the Alfred P. Sloan Screenwriting Grant for Station Blackout, Black has also served as a script reader for Sundance and Stage32, demonstrating expertise in evaluating and refining screenplays.
