Matthew Andersson is an Associate Professor of Sociology at Baylor University, where he has been a faculty member since 2016. He holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from The University of Iowa (2014), along with an M.A. in Sociology and dual B.A. degrees in Chemistry and Psychology from Knox College (2008). His research focuses on health inequalities, dignity as a public health concern, and social-psychological mechanisms shaping well-being. Andersson has served on editorial boards for journals including Social Science Research, Social Science & Medicine, and Journal of Health and Social Behavior. His co-authored book The Science of Dignity (Oxford University Press, 2023) integrates dignity theory with empirical data on health and well-being. His work frequently employs Gallup data to explore subjective dignity, socioeconomic status, and mental health. Andersson’s articles span topics like political polarization’s health impacts, prayer’s role in mental health, and educational disparities in smoking/drinking behaviors. He emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration and policy-relevant research.
