Matthew Alemu is an Assistant Professor of Sociology and Criminology and Criminal Justice at Northeastern University’s College of Social Sciences and Humanities. His research focuses on the impact of father absence on life trajectories, particularly among young Black men, and explores their ideologies regarding fatherhood and relationships. He holds a PhD in Public Policy and Sociology from the University of Michigan (2022), an MPP from the University of Michigan’s Ford School (2009), and a B.S. in Accounting from Xavier University of Louisiana (2006). Prior to academia, he worked as a policy analyst at the Government Accountability Office.
