Matthew A. Pasek is an Associate Professor in the School of Geosciences at the University of South Florida, part of the College of Arts and Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Arizona (2006) and a B.S. from the College of William and Mary (2002). His research focuses on prebiotic chemistry, planetary geochemistry, and phosphorus cycling, particularly investigating the role of phosphorus in the origins of life and its behavior in early solar system environments.
Key projects include Phosphorus Redox on Icy Worlds (NSF Habitable Worlds) and Emergence of Phosphorus Minerals in the Solar System (NASA Emerging Worlds). He has led over 40 research projects and published extensively in astrobiology and geochemistry. Awards include the Faculty Outstanding Research Achievement Award (USF, 2024) and NASA fellowships. Pasek teaches courses such as Biogeochemistry and General Geochemistry, and is active in professional organizations like the American Chemical Society and Meteoritical Society.
