Matteo Santarelli is a Junior Assistant Professor (fixed-term) at the Department of Philosophy, University of Bologna. His research focuses on moral philosophy, social philosophy, and social sciences with a strong emphasis on classical pragmatism (John Dewey, George Herbert Mead), psychoanalysis, and value theory. He holds a dual PhD from Roma Tre University (2014) and University of Molise (2018), and has held research fellowships at institutions including the University of Bologna and the Max Weber Kolleg (Erfurt, Germany). Notable publications include monographs on Dewey’s theory of interest (La vita interessata 2019) and Freud’s theory of reality (2024), as well as translations of Hans Joas’ work. His current research explores intersections between moral philosophy and social sciences, particularly around concepts of interest, values, and conceptual revision.
Education includes a B.A. (2008), M.A. (2010), and dual PhD in Philosophy and Human Sciences. His linguistic competencies include C1-level English and B2-level French/German. Recent activities include editorial work for journals like European Journal of Pragmatism and American Philosophy, and teaching roles at the University of Bologna. His interdisciplinary approach integrates pragmatism with psychoanalysis, cognitive science, and political theory to address contemporary social challenges.
Recent publications (2023–2024) highlight themes such as Deweyan anthropology of interests, psychoanalytic theory, and the social character of unconscious processes. His work bridges philosophical analysis with practical applications in education, democracy, and ethical decision-making.
