Matteo Farnesi Camellone

Matteo Farnesi Camellone is a Researcher at the National Research Council's Institute of Materials (CNR-IOM) in Trieste, Italy, where he has worked since 2013. Previously, he held postdoctoral positions at Ruhr-Universität Bochum (2010-2013) and CNR-IOM (2008-2010). He obtained his PhD in Physics from ETH Zurich (2007) and undergraduate degree from University of Padova (2002).

His research specializes in computational materials science with focus areas including:

• Catalysis & Chemical Physics: Atomic-level processes at surfaces/interfaces
• Electrochemistry & Photochemistry: Reaction mechanisms at solid-gas/liquid interfaces
• Energy Materials: Applications in catalysis, photocatalysis and energy storage

He employs advanced computational techniques including Density Functional Theory (DFT), ab initio molecular dynamics, and metadynamics to study metal-oxide systems like CeO₂, TiO₂, and Co₃O₄. He leads the NanoMat laboratory dedicated to theoretical studies of materials at atomic scale.
