Matteo Casari is an Associate Professor at the University of Bologna's Department of the Arts. He specializes in Asian performance practices, particularly Japanese theatre, and explores intersections between performance and technology, including robotics in the arts. He directs the Master's Programme in Performing Arts Entrepreneurship and co-founded the book series Arti della Performance: orizzonti e culture. His research includes organizing conferences such as Wabi Sabi Cyber and Performing robots.
Education: PhD in Theatrical and Cinematographic Studies (University of Bologna, 2006).
Research Interests: Asian performance traditions, technology in performance, cultural anthropology, and interdisciplinary art practices. His work bridges traditional forms like Nō, Kyōgen, and Bunraku with contemporary innovations, emphasizing Japan's influence and cross-cultural dialogues.
