Dale Daigle serves as Professor of Theatre and Chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance at Washington College, where he has taught since 1990. He concurrently directs the Daniel Z. Gibson Center for the Arts and previously founded the Communications and Media Studies program.
His academic credentials include:
- B.A. from University of Maine at Orono (1977)
- M.F.A. from University of Hawaii at Manoa (1989)
Professor Daigle's research centers on Acting and Directing methodologies, with deep expertise in Japanese Traditional Theatre forms including Noh, Kyogen, and Kabuki. His fieldwork includes performing at Kyoto's imperial palace and studying under Japan's "Living National Treasures" Nomura Shiro and Nomura Mansaku. Recent creative focus has shifted toward developing New Plays, resulting in eight world premieres at Washington College.
His artistic recognition includes:
- Best Drama at the 2012 Capital Fringe Festival for "We, Tiresias"
- Best Local Play by the Washington City Paper (2012) for "We, Tiresias"
Daigle has taught 18 distinct courses spanning technical theatre, traditional Japanese forms, and contemporary performance, while directing over 30 productions across five continents including professional collaborations with Atlanta's 7 Stages Theatre and Washington D.C.'s Forum Theatre.
