معرفی
Prof. Matteo Ballottari is a Full Professor in the Department of Biotechnology at the University of Verona. His research focuses on optimizing solar energy bio-exploitation in microalgae and plants to produce food, biofuels, and high-value products. He leads the SOLE-LAB (SOLAR ENERGY BIOEXPLOITATION LAB) and holds roles in multiple PhD boards and academic committees. His work integrates plant physiology, biochemistry, genetics, and bioinformatics, supported by grants like the ERC Starting Grant (SOLENALGAE) and PRIN projects.
Education & Research Interests
His interdisciplinary research targets metabolic engineering of algae for astaxanthin, omega-3, and biofuel production. Key areas include genomic/transcriptomic analyses, protein chemistry, and photoprotection mechanisms. He explores light utilization efficiency and stress responses in photosynthetic organisms.
Awards & Projects
- ERC Starting Grant (2016): SOLENALGAE project
- PRIN Grant (2012): Microalgae Biotechnology
- Recent projects: SINERGHY (2024), AlgaeStimulant (2023), and ASTEASIER (2023)
Teaching & Academic Service
Ballottari teaches courses on bio-exploitation of solar energy, metabolic engineering, and molecular biology across undergraduate and PhD programs. He serves as a committee member for research and academic quality (AQ) at the university level.
Labs & Spin-offs
His lab collaborates with companies like Microbion S.r.l. and Enerzyme S.r.l. to commercialize algae-derived products. Research focuses on wastewater valorization and novel bioreactor systems for sustainable agriculture and biofuel production.
