Matthew Murphy is an Associate Professor of Sustainability and Strategy at the Gustavson School of Business, University of Victoria, since 2012. His research focuses on cross-sector collaboration, stakeholder relationships, and Indigenous community-based sustainable development. He advises First Nations on evaluating socio-cultural impacts of economic projects and explores pathways to food sovereignty. His work bridges business ethics, human rights, and community empowerment.
Education:
- BBA in International Business, University of Texas at Austin
- Master of Research and PhD in Management Sciences, ESADE Business School, Spain
Research Interests:
Explores stakeholder conflict resolution, socio-cultural impact assessments in Indigenous communities, and global-local dynamics in fair trade and food sovereignty. Current projects include documentary films on food sovereignty across continents, analyzing extractive industry conflicts, and developing tools for evaluating development projects with First Nations.

Teaching & Engagement:
Teaches MBA and executive programs on business sustainability, social entrepreneurship, and business-human rights. Co-founded social enterprise Proudly Made in Africa and previously worked in financial services. Fluent in Spanish and English.
