Matt McCook serves as Professor of History and Department Chair at Oklahoma Christian University, where he has taught since 2002. A dedicated scholar of America's religious and intellectual history, he teaches courses in pre-Civil War American history, historical methods, American Religious History, and the Modern Middle East.
His research focuses on:
- Second Great Awakening movements and societal impacts
- Religious and social reform dynamics
- Analysis of America's Founders' religious beliefs
- Historiographical methodologies
- Pre-Civil War era developments
- Modern Middle Eastern studies
Dr. McCook has published a book chapter in "Religion and the State" and regularly presents at major academic conferences including the Conference on Faith and History, Conference on Religion and the State, American Historical Association, Organization of American Historians, and American Studies Association.
His academic excellence is recognized through two awards of OC's Faith and Learning Award.
Actively mentoring future social studies teachers, Dr. McCook also serves as a deacon and Bible class teacher at Memorial Road Church of Christ. He enjoys writing parodies, playing guitar, golf, basketball, and traveling with his wife Alyssa and three children.
