Dr. Matt Davey is a Senior Lecturer in Algal Biotechnology at the Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS) within the University of the Highlands and Islands. His research focuses on algal physiology, ecology, and biotechnology, with a particular interest in metabolic traits of algae in natural and controlled environments. He leads the Algal Metabolic Ecology group, exploring applications in sustainable biomaterials, bioenergy, and space missions. Dr. Davey has over 20 years of experience in algal research and collaborates extensively with industry and international partners.
His teaching roles include leading EU EIT-Food algae biotechnology training courses and contributing to plant sciences and metabolomics education at the University of Cambridge. He has supervised over 60 undergraduate students and mentored PhD researchers in areas like Antarctic algae and space-related biotechnology.
