Professor Matt Carnie is a faculty member at Swansea University's Faculty of Science and Engineering, where he conducts critical research in solar photovoltaic energy materials and next generation PV applications.
His research focuses on developing innovative materials and technologies to enhance solar photovoltaic performance and applications, directly addressing the global challenge of transitioning to sustainable energy sources. By improving solar technologies, his work aims to make renewable energy more efficient, affordable, and widely accessible, thereby reducing reliance on fossil fuels and mitigating climate change. His research is most closely aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy.
Professor Carnie serves as Co-PI on the GENERATION project, which involves multidisciplinary collaboration across Swansea University departments including Computer Science, and with external institutions such as Newcastle University, Imperial College London, University of Oxford, and Queen Mary University of London. This research combines expertise in materials science, human-computer interaction, gerontology, and electronic engineering to develop sustainable, user-friendly self-powered IoT devices specifically designed for older adults.
