Matt Allen is an Associate Professor at Babson College's Entrepreneurship Division, where he serves as Faculty Director for the Institute for Family Entrepreneurship and Academic Director for the Global STEP Project. He has been at Babson since 2011 and holds a BS in Accounting from the University of Utah, an MBA from the University of Notre Dame, and a PhD from Cornell University. His research focuses on how family dynamics influence entrepreneurial development in subsequent generations, emphasizing the role of home environment over business practices.
Allen teaches courses such as Family Entrepreneurship Amplifier and Entrepreneurship and Opportunity, and has developed innovative programs like a family business club and parent-student engagement initiatives. His work integrates insights from sociology and psychology to strengthen intergenerational business succession. Notably, he authored a Harvard Business Review article on relational approaches to family business leadership transitions.
Allen received the Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence and is recognized for creating unique curricula that bridge academic theory with real-world business challenges. Beyond academia, he enjoys outdoor activities and family time.
