معرفی
Mats Ingulstad is a Professor at the Department of Modern Social History at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), where he also serves as Deputy Head of Research. His work spans modern Norwegian and international history with particular focus on resource politics, occupation history, and sustainability. He maintains active collaborations across disciplines including law, political science, engineering, and environmental sciences, reflecting his commitment to interdisciplinary approaches to historical research.
Ingulstad's research interests center on the historical dimensions of natural resource governance, with special attention to aluminum, bauxite, and tin industries, American foreign policy, and Norwegian occupation history during WWII. His recent work increasingly examines marine resources and seabed minerals, connecting historical patterns to contemporary sustainability challenges. He has developed significant expertise in how resource politics intersect with sovereignty, security, and international law across different historical periods.
His publication record shows a clear evolution from studies of specific resource industries (aluminum, tin) toward broader examinations of resource governance systems and their relationship to environmental sustainability. Recent publications demonstrate growing emphasis on marine resources, seabed minerals, and climate change, reflecting contemporary concerns while maintaining historical depth and perspective. This trajectory shows how historical analysis can inform current debates about sustainable resource management.
Ingulstad actively supervises students at all levels within modern history and leads the 'Evaluating Case-based Teaching (SUSTAINABLE)' project at NTNU (2021-2023), which examines innovative pedagogical approaches. He teaches courses including HIST3205 (Genocide, war and society), KRIG3050/3051 (War, environment and sustainability), and HIST3400 (Global political economy of natural resources, 1870-2000).
He participates in several significant research initiatives including the TripleDeep project, Gemini Center for Seabed Minerals, and Mission Mjøsa. These projects reflect his commitment to addressing contemporary resource challenges through historical perspectives, often working with scientists, engineers, and policymakers to bridge historical understanding with practical applications for sustainable development.
