Mats Haraldsen is a Research Fellow in French Literature and Cultural Studies at the University of Oslo's Faculty of Humanities, Department of Literature, Area Studies and European Languages. His research focuses on how novels explore individual and collective memory through cognitive science frameworks, with a focus on authors like Georges Perec and Patrick Modiano. He holds MAs in Comparative Literature (2020) and French Literature (2019).
Academic achievements include the 2020 UiO Sustainability Prize for his MA thesis and a 2024 Sylff Travel Grant. His work examines memory processes in literature using 4E cognition and predictive processing theories, with side projects on cultural practices like meditation and digital tools' impact on cognition.
He participates in research groups such as Cultural Memory Studies and Literature, Cognition and Emotions. Current projects include 'Thinking Elsewhere: Reading and Meditation.' His publications span AI & Society, Poetics Today, and Style, addressing topics like extended remembering and embodied interaction in literature.
