Dr. Matluba Khan is a Senior Lecturer in Urban Design and Co-Director of the MA Urban Design program at Cardiff University's School of Geography and Planning. Her research examines relationships between built environment design and human behavior, health, and wellbeing, with particular focus on participatory design methodologies and children's learning environments. Her work bridges disciplinary boundaries between urban design, education, psychology, and public health.
Dr. Khan's research spans global contexts from Bangladesh to the UK, employing intervention studies and evaluation frameworks for outdoor learning environments. Notable projects include school ground redesigns that demonstrated measurable improvements in children's academic performance through outdoor pedagogy.
She has received numerous international awards including the American Society of Landscape Architects Honor Award (2017) and Environment Design Research Association Great Places Award (2016). Her current work emphasizes co-design processes with children and youth to create greener, fairer communities.
